BRTT Overview
The NEBAALAS Boston Regional Technician Training (BRTT) is geared toward technicians in the Laboratory Animal Industry who are seeking educational and networking opportunities. This educational platform brings together both local and nationwide speakers who are highly knowledgeable and experienced in their area of interest. A variety of topics and tips that are chosen based on their relevance to the everyday work of technicians and reflecting current topics.
Two-Three tracks of sessions are in line with AALAS certification levels in order to satisfy educational needs of entry level through seasoned technicians. The program is designed to provide education on best practices, networking, enriched skill sets, review of products with vendors, and to inspire/motivate each other in this field. In summary, this biannual training is a valuable resource for any technician in the New England area.

The LabDiet® PMI Laboratory Animal Care Course Overview session will focus on how it can be utilized as a teaching tool for entry level employees, employees with test anxiety as well as language barriers which is offered in Spanish. We will give a brief overview of the six chapters.
Below are the lessons as follows:
- Introduction to Laboratory Animals: A brief history of animals used in research. Outline of the major animal physiological systems. Bird’s-eye view of nutrition. Preview of disease in an animal colony.
- Management of Laboratory Animals: Life cycle data: genetics, strains, breeding, and mating. Principles of animal health, disease, and control of disease. Environmental requirements, regulations, and policies. Organizations and the role of Laboratory Animal Care Technicians.
- Management of Laboratory Animals: Rodents & Rabbits. History, behavior, handling, housing, and nutrition information for the following animals: Mouse, Rat, Guinea Pig, Hamster, Gerbil, Rabbit.
- Management of Laboratory Animals: Intermediate Size. History, behavior, handling, housing, and nutrition information for the following animals: Dogs, Cats, Ferrets, Non-Human Primates, Swine.
- Management of Laboratory Animals: Hoofed Stock & Other, Including Exotics. History, behavior, handling, housing, and nutrition information for the following animals: Hoofed Stock (Sheep, Goats, Cattle & Horses), Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish, Birds, Others (Wild Rodents, Armadillo, Opossum, Invertebrates).
Facilities, Personnel & Environmental Management. Common environmental matters. Typical caging, equipment, and materials. Personnel safety issues and concerns. Sanitation categories and factors to consider for effective and safe use of products

“Virtual Introduction to Lab Animal Anatomy”
Charles River Laboratories - Shrewsbury 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM
REGISTRATION LIMITED to 16 people
We will explore basic lab animal anatomy with the use of the Anatomage 3D digital table in a virtual format. The focus will be on basic anatomy, areas around common sampling and dosing sites, and key difference between the different species.
